LONDON and MCLEAN, Va. - As the New Year begins, escaping the stresses of modern day life is at the top of our 2014 wish-list, according to a new study from Hilton HHonors, the loyalty programme for Hilton Worldwide's ten hotel brands, to mark the launch of its Any Weekend Anywhere Sale.

According to the study, 70 per cent of UK workers are dreaming of taking an extended break, and 38 is the ideal age for a working professional to do so, with almost half believing that at this point in life, they are financially stable and have the money to make the most of the experience.

However, more than half of British workers feel their boss wouldn't be open to them taking an extended break and for the vast majority of us the reality is we try to cram all of our travels into our annual leave. Despite the desired travelling time being six weeks, 70 per cent believe they won't take any longer than a couple of weeks off work.

"Weekend breaks are an opportunity for keen travellers to escape from everyday life and relax without breaking the budget or using up too much of their precious annual leave.  We want to support all travel enthusiasts with weekend excursions throughout the year - whether it's a trip to the beautiful Algarve or a cultural experience in Rome. That's why we've launched our Any Weekend Anywhere Sale - to provide travellers who wish to explore the world the opportunity to do so with up to 33% off hotels throughout 2014," said Jeff Diskin, executive vice president commercial services, Hilton Worldwide.

To help Brits enjoy their sabbatical wish-list of experiences, from today until 31January 2014, workers can make the most of their weekends and annual leave with the Any Weekend Anywhere Sale, which offers discounts of up to 33 per cent off room rates at Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton hotels across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, for stays through the end of 2014.

Hilton HHonors has also launched a Facebook competition to win the 'Gap Year you never had,' offering one individual the opportunity to win 10 European weekend breaks, across selected Hilton Worldwide properties. Three runners-up will receive a two-night stay at a Hilton Worldwide hotel in Europe. For a chance to win, simply enter the competition on the HHonors Facebook page. Prizes include:
